  1. Hi Cap,
Definition of a heatwave in Belgium is the same as you mentioned for The Netherlands. Or did you switch the definitions?
    Good weekend.

    1. The media is changing the concept of “Canicule”. It has to be minimum 10 days with hot and sunny conditions to be considered “Canicule”.
In fact is a term who came from the Roman empire, so we can imagine easily why they were doing wine at England for example.

      Best,

        1. Again today. At ten o’clock this morning, 97F. Wednesday we get a break into the 80’s, then 2 days in the 70’s, then down to the 30’s most likely (0C for you SH). Because, there’s a nefarious conspiracy to prevent us from enjoying the weather, or any other danged thing, come to that!

          1. It has been bad, 85 with dewpoints mid 70s. Intermittent storms enough just steam things, my lawn has never looked this nice in a decade this time of year. Sweetcorn great, tomatoes not so much to hot.

      1. It was 95F in the shade here in Metcalfe County KY yesterday…add humidity and 103-105 yech!!!
And YES I know what Missouri is like.
I took Boot camp/AIT at Ft Leonard Wood in April thru July!

        1. That’s funny. My late husband took basic training at Ft Campbell KY. I went to visit him in July/ August. I drank too much beer plus the heat made me sick and he and his buddies smuggled me into the barracks bathroom to puke. Ah, the fond memories of youth…

          1. Is it any flaw? Could there be something wrong with the measurements?
            Probably nobody cares.
            Someone might suspect something fishy.

  2. Deb,

It’s time to stop worrying about day to day temperatures and precipitation, because things are about to get very serious for the human race.

When we talk about a multi-decade solar minimum it is the beginning years that are so deadly, not so much the ensuing years of cold. We are now in the first years of this solar minimum even though we are also in the peak of solar cycle 25 or just after the peak, and it’s showing itself to be an odd solar maximum.

Since the beginning of 2025 most of the solar flares have produced weak to non-existent coronal mass ejections and UV radiation, which has caused the earth’s thermosphere to start a rapid cooling. The maximum thermosphere temperature for cycle 25 was about 34.31 x10 (Hot) around September 22, 2024. It is currently about 17.50X10 (Neutral) and falling about a degree every 10 days. At this temperature earth is losing more heat than it receives from sun, because the thermosphere becomes less reflective of infrared the colder it gets and this trend is increasing. (It is the reflectivity of the thermosphere redirecting infrared heat back to earths atmosphere that determines whether or not we’re in a warm period or an ice age.)

What makes this so dangerous is you get later and later frost in the spring and this trend moves further and further south each year. You will remember this spring Cap reported the sever frost that swept Turkey and Cyprus destroying most of the crops and damaging most of the fruit. Then later he reported the loss of the fruit in China, Korea and Japan from late frost. The same has been happening in Europe for the last three of 4 springs. Late frost in Russia wiped out most this years potatoes crop and a large percentage of the wheat crop. And this is happening increasingly in both hemispheres.

As of the posting of this comment the worlds current crops are just even with current project demand. Any major disruption in either hemisphere will lead to shortages and inflation. If the southern hemisphere suffers a large late frost over the major grain growing areas of Australia, South America and South Africa, then famine is likely to occur at an increasing rate world wide over the next three to four years.

There is still time for governments to take actions to limit the death and destruction this solar minimum is going to cause, but I doubt they will. Deb, like you I’m old, so may no live to see whats coming.

      1. I project the UN will have their collective heads up their butts by the middle of next month.

Oh, wait, that ship has sailed. I must have received some faulty data. I’ll just run another projection. Hope no one was inconvenienced.

    1. Since the rate of change keeps increasing, I’m afraid we’re going to be alive to see plenty ’nuff bad stuff.

Alvin Toffler predicted this about 40 years ago in his book on Future Shock. I’ve been waiting for decades to see it all play out. Climate change is the least of our problems.

          1. The billionaires.

Spinky, when do you think there will be an affordable robot with AI that can cook my meals for me? 😁

          2. That was probably a Putin Android, twitching its leg to throw people off. It’s going on the market next year and should dig Russia out of its financial hole.

          3. Putin created BRICS to strengthen Russia’s economy.

Russia’s manufacturing industry is now competing with China and India.

Should US manufacturing industry also compete with China and India?

Wages will be the same as in India for countries to be able to compete with the manufacturing industry in India and China.

          4. If they expect us to work as hard as the Chinese and Indians, they are going to have to feed us better quality food.

    2. I am 69 and YEP gettin older. I just hope I can get everything ready for my Wife and 22 yr old Son. AND cuz of Hunga-Tonga the excess water that went UP is coming down. This Winter I expect MASSIVE Snowstorms like 1978…32″ with 1″ of ice underneath in Louisville KY!

    3. Interesting. Wondered where to find thermosphere temperatures. Historical only or also live feed temp readings per elevations?

    4. Sorry, replied in the wrong section:

        1. davidttx,
Looks like Mother Earth may be transitioning as other planets have recently. Author F. Mann is a nice gift. Thanks for the fast reply. Dan

  3. ARTICLE
The Road To Hell Is Paved With Green Intentions
    https://wattsupwiththat.com/2025/08/16/the-road-to-hell-is-paved-with-green-intentions/

—This is an article detailing the folly & costs of renewables, the lack of large scale battery storage and the need for increased transmission lines.

Conclusion: “Instead of getting affordable “clean” energy, ratepayers are underwriting a circus of subsidies and speculative projects whose delays and failures are a matter of public record. When your rates spike, remember: it’s the cost of betting the farm on renewables dependent on fickle weather, bureaucratic magic, and a market that values wishful thinking over working electrons.”
