It is early yet for the northern hemisphere, but the cold water of the Atlantic and the lingering cold up in the Arctic, do seem unexpected by nearly all forecasters. When viewed against what is happening in the southern hemisphere one should begin in earnest to prepare for colder weather to become the norm. How cold is the only question.
I’ve been prepared for the cold since the 60s, nothing new. Worrying about cold when it’s record hot is goofy.
The Gulf of Mexico is 86F, warmer than ave. Way warmer than Hawaii. South of Mexico the Pacific O is 86F, warmer than ave. Only takes a little solar forcing to get the hurricanes rolling.
I have a lifetime supply of brand new Arctic gear. 4X4 with 4 studs and chains. Endless supply of firewood in the hood. Year round fresh food supply and a good water supply even if it drops below zero. Strategic location for GSM, I’m gonna pick peas and beans and blackberries all Summer in my yard. And grapes. And Elk. Not afraid of the cold a bit. Go catch 40 salmon this Fall and smoke salmon like normal.
My chainlink fence keeps the Elk out so they won’t eat my garden and grapes and fruit trees. All you can eat lifetime supply of Elk
Begin to prepare for the cold? I was a ski instructor in the 70s and worked at a ski area building and operating chairlifts. I always have six cords of firewood ready for Winter I don’t need to do anything different than normal.
Low snow here last two Winters everybody here thinks you guys are Loony Tunes.
Thee worst place to be in GSM cold is mid USA or Canada. Center of mass gets coldest. Lots of folks here in the worst places to be. TN. KY, MO, OhiO. Minnisorta. It will be like the Texas freeze all the time and you’ll be stuck in it Cold fronts down to Texas, frozen solid mid USA. Canada a barren wasteland of ice. No food. Not froze here on the West Coast, never go East of the Cascade Mtns, Never. SW to Hawaii much betta, Alohaa. My Grandpa from London was there in 1900 putting phones in the King’s Palace. Played Polo while London froze. Mangos and hula skirts😎
This is early for snow in South Africa. The ski areas in the Eastern Cape can get a little, but it looks like another cold winter. At this time of year snow is rate because it is the rainless season. Usually snow is witnessed in early September when there is a change of precipitation.
Lesotho an have 2m of snow in a single storm – I’ve seen that myself. It is high there. The lowlands are above 5000 ft.
That temp in Sutherland is not all that unusual. Snow at this time would be. There is normally no precipitation at all for four months. Check out Sutherland for its telescopes. Very cool place.

A big coronal hole turning to face Earth with more hot solar wind headed for Earth. It’s the same coronal hole as last month and back to last year. Coronal holes also make quakes and volcanos erupt and make snow, rain cyclones. Warm fronts and cold fronts.
One YouTube channel is now saying El Nino is coming, first big hype on that. Just more clickbait.
NZ probably blow up off the map when the poles flip. Hawaii and Japan also could have major volcanic action and the whole Ring of Fire. Mile high tsunamis all around the globe. EU drowned by tsunamis. Greenland is sposed to slip down to the Equator. Plate shifts.
This is what Ben Davidson is saying could happen next decade. Pole flip possible next decade not just low sunspot count you guys think might happen but don’t have a chart to show. The weak mag shield is part of the pole flip in progress. Prepping for cold won’t do squat. Almost nobody in the mid US will survive.
