With 14 plus hours of sunlight daily it leaves lots of time to party the Ozzy way. Most of us in the southern half of the globe could not even imagine the cold and snow that are occurring up north now.

I had to drive over that Pass for holidays for decades, mandatory compliance. Tis the season to get stuck in traffic. Best idea, stay home by the woodstove and try to ignore Xmas altogether. Best part of Xmas is when it’s over. Worst day of the year. !2/26 3am, another hurricane off the coast now gusting 90mph. Flooding here from nonstop rain. Barometer dropping fast as the low moves onshore. Wind increasing now. Weeeee. Merryometer pegged.
So after 20 years raising my daughter got less easy and expensive by the year next 17 years and still not under control. Separated now by distance, driving not advised from the merry jolly hurricanes from Hawaii volcano erupting. Electron spike.

where we used to get our winters and eleven cities tours
from, the real cold has not disappeared, only
it cannot or may not enter Europe.
High pressure systems choose unfavorable positions
that contribute to an anti-winter scenario.
But this high pressure distribution that is now letting us down
will be neatly restored in March 2025.
Prospects to date for winter period 24/25
Azores mild sea air is therefore a priority this winter period
alternating “sometimes” with a west-northwesterly flow.
No snow with christmas for amsterdam
Azores heat source 2 for Europe had already started
and this is therefore attempt 4 to transport very mild sea air
from the Azores area to western Europe
so around Christmas so double figures again,
all very logical to explain.
Heat source 1 starts up when the month of March 2025 approaches
and high pressure systems take up positions that cause the current to flow
again from the continent and between no-zo
and also from russia.
But yes, that is of little use because the winter is
already over with a stronger sun and the first thermals
but we can then write how mild and warm and extreme the winter period
has been.

US freezing down to Atlanta next week. Temps in the teens Iowa, N Carolina.
EU goes very cold starting next week, total pattern change forecast shown on Windy.com. Low pressure over St Petersburg, EU temps very cold, 7F forecast Poland on 1/8/’25. 8F in Moscow. That’s the WW3 front on the war map, snow also forecast. Freezing in London, Amsterdam down to Granada Spain by the Med, also freezing N Africa. Three feet of snow forecast in the mountains of N Spain in the next two weeks shown on Windy.com.
No freezing here NW US at sea level until 1/18/’25. Rain, feet of snow in the mountains.
Windy now forecasting -15F in Iowa next Tuesday 1/7 and 0F in MO on Thursday. Freezing down to the Gulf of Mexico and Mexico on Thursday 1/9. Shows snow down to Houston.
Not freezing here because of the salt water across the street 600′ deep and 46F. Due East in Montana, -17F forecast. 35F ‘ere. -5F Spokane in E Washington 6 hours away from the Pacific Ocean.
My forecast for Thursday says high 42F, low 20F. I’ll take mine over yours. You might want to take Windy with a grain of salt. 0F is pretty extreme for Missouri at this point in the year.
Windy’s US forecast now colder starting sooner by next Sunday night, getting colder from there. Nothing says happy like subzero temps and blizzards.

Hurricane offshore NW US in the Pacific Ocean gusting 90mph at 7am Xmas bringing heavy rain, wind all day. More storms the rest of the week, trees down, roads closed, flooding, power outs. Hawaii volcano erupted from solar flares is adding to the storms. Eight feet of snow forecast on the mountains behind my house this week. Most in the US except Alaska, because of close location next to the Pacific Ocean. 39F here at sea level, mountains are 7000 ft. Snowing up the road a couple miles I’m staying right here by the woodstove unless there is an emergency.
Mt Hood Oregon tops 200 inches of snow this year, knee deep new snow. Lifts are closed 12/26 from the hurricane so it’s all untracked snow tomorrow. Doesn’t get any better than that. What are we trying to fix?

Winter period Dec 24 – Feb 2025 for west, north and central Europe
Heat source 2 is the very soft sea air above
the Azores area, so everything west of +- 50-100 km
from the coast of Portugal, which is influenced by a dominant south-westerly current
brought to Europe by both low-pressure systems and high-pressure systems
or a combination thereof, which then creates a stronger southwesterly current
the Azores area, which means that there is no winter, but sometimes alternated with colder periods, especially due to a west-northwest current or a
colder flow with “much delay by the way” from the Arctic
heat source 2 lasts from December 24 – February 2025.

A small chance of a winter scenario in the west part of europe. The chance of this is still waiting and not great, But high-pressure systems need to work together To bring the cold from Russia to Europe, This requires 3 points of high pressure Greenland high pressure Scandinavia high pressure Northpole/russia highpressure If this winter attempt fails, then the chance is greater that soft sea air from the Azores region will further determine the winter.
