  1. There’s an odd looking structure in the picture labeled “Molltal Glacier, Austria.” My first thought was it looks like a boat or something supported on a pedastal, which would be silly.

    I’m guessing it’s the lower terminus of a ski lift or tram car run.

    I picked up a used paperback copy of Geoffrey Parker’s “Global Crisis – War, Climate Change & Catastrophe In The Seventeenth Century”.
    Parker’s epilogue reads, “It’s the climate, stupid”.
    It should be an interesting read.

  3. Tropical tidbits uses colours that only show total snow depth up to 110cm. http://www.metcheck.com/WEATHER/gfscharts.asp uses different colours that show total snow depth up to 200cm. They’re showing that parts of Austria could get at least 150cm or 5 feet of snow in the next 5 or 6 days. Given that forecast models are pretty accurate in the short term and become less accurate after 7 days or longer these sort depths are highly likely to occur.
