A valuable – but scarcely mentioned – parameter is Land Surface Temperature (LST) measurements by NASA.
One may discern that for the past half year global DAY TIME LST has predominantly been cooler than reference period 2001-2010.
On the other hand the NIGHT TIME LST has remained predominantly warmer than reference period.
This observation undermines popular claims that earth in 2024 should be beleaguered by abnormal heat, but rather that for the time being there tend to be milder nights. The latter of course contribute to seemingly high average (24h) temperatures.
In fine, radiative input during day time is now less (than either 2023 or reference period 2001-2010), but there seems to be a cooling inhibiter during night time, which (among other things) might be residual ocean warmth.
If the latter is indeed the case, and ocean surface temperatures stick to a declining trend, one might expect both resumption of cooler nights, as well as lower 2m temperature measurements reflected in UAH benchmarks etc.
>>These daytime land surface temperature anomaly maps were made using thermal infrared measurements collected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument aboard NASA’s Terra satellite. The measurements shown here represent the temperature of the “skin” (or top 1 millimeter) of the land surface during the daytime — including bare land, snow or ice cover, urban areas, and cropland or forest canopy — and should not be confused with surface air temperature measurements that are given in a typical weather report.<<
If the night temps are hovering higher than might be expected, I attribute that to, in part, residual atmospheric moisture from the Hunga Tonga eruption, as we see manifested by a cloudy night retaining heat where a clear night cools way down.
Ya, extreme fear porn watched by millions with the message if you use fossil fuels it will get so cold you freeze solid. Conditioning of the masses. Fear porn… hey you got an updated GSM chart?
“facing an energy crisis after Gazprom cut supplies to Europe”; that is not correct as far as I know; it was Ukraine that refused to transit the Russian gas to Europe.
Just sayin’ to avoid ‘misinformation’ .
Putin blew up North Stream pipelines because he didn’t want to make a bunch of money, he wanted to waste the billions spent on the project when it was ready to go. It was an evil trick and now EU has to suffer in the record cold GSM conditions.
The Nord Stream was blown up over a year ago. The recent curtailment of gas pipedthrough the Unraine due to the contract expiration was about a week ago.
WE blew up N Stream and WE stopped NG through Ukraine to EU so they are suffering. Putin wants to sell to make money, we want to take over Russia and steal everything without them nuking us. Bad idea.
Land Surface Temperatures (LST) – We all agree that cities have become hot spots, with the roads and dark rooftops retaining a lot of daytime heat. This in addition to the removal of most tree cover makes these cities hot spots. My question is – do these LSTs make corrections to cater for these hotspots. I live in Sydney, near the beach, where yesterday the temperature was 30C but out in Penrith (western Sydney) the temperature was 40C!
Another question relating to CO2 levels, I read that in the past 50 years the CO2 ppm has increased from ~337 to ~417ppm. We all accept that sea temperatures have been warming over that period AND that the oceans contribute a majority of the CO2 in the atmosphere. So with warming oceans (like a big soda water container) a portion of the CO2 increase should be attributed to the ocean, Please comment.
You should – if you’re interested – read the accompanying description on the main LST website.
I don’t think the kind of adjusting (catering) applies to satellite measurements of all terrestrial surface, as it does to a specific thermometer at a specific location.
Regarding greenhouse gases (CO2-equivalents), I don’t think this framework has enough explanatory power to account for the recent historic trends it has been used to explain. This should come to light fairly soon, if science is a self-correcting (or falsifying) enterprise.
Deb, Sorry, on my keyboard I use the TILDE symbol. A tilde in front of a single quantity can mean “approximately”, “about” or “of the same order of magnitude as.”
In mathematics, it reflects negation.
You learn something new every day. Thanks, John.
I just realized that symbol is not a straight line. My near vision is not quite as good as it used to be.

‘experts’ are trying to sell the idea that global heating is behind the increasingly severe winters
At the risk of being vulgar, shouldn’t that be
‘Ass Holes’
I call them Fraudsters.
What do you call the people who believe such errant nonsense?
Naive and Ignorant.
You’re so polite –you must be British.
Warming caused the Day after Tomorrow movie’s cold from cyclones.

Super cyclones from global warming pull the cold air from the poles.
pssst it’s a movie.
Any/everything can ‘happen’ in Hollywood movies.
See: Bruce Willis. He drilled down and blew apart an asteroid with a nuke.

I believe a business contract expired – was not renegotiated. Why it was not, I do not know.
No contract, no energy transport.

Good I hope the UK would drop to -84 F with 125 feet of snow, including London! They DESERVE A LESSON!!!!

How can you have negative ppm?
Deb, that symbol (~) is called a tilde and is sometimes used to represent +/-. Class dismissed 🙂
Thanks, Teach! ☺️
Jay, I just realized that symbol you quoted was not a straight line. See comment to John below.
Almost time for me to get a pair of reading glasses, I guess.
