The most ignorant and disgusting countries are pretty much Japan, much of Europe and probably Australia and certain ones in Africa. They are all incredibly ignorant about the ice age cycles and climatic cooling. We’ve lost at least 1.5 F since 2005 over continents combined and snowfall has rapidly been on the increase in depth and extent. The next ice age is already arriving and has been doing so for a long time. Snow is a product of cold temperatures, which means it’s been getting colder for the last 20 years along with 3,100 glaciers growing rapidly (surging) worldwide. Anybody telling you the opposite is a full fledged liar.
When air warms 1 degree, it can hold more water at saturation. Someone claiming that “global warming” or “climate change” should be prepared to demonstrate that the air over Northern Japan is indeed holding more water. Second, the ability of water to condense and drop as precipitation is dependent on the Delta T – the drop in temperature before and after that precipitation. If the before temperature and after temperature are always, say, 5 degrees different, the amount of water that can be dropped is about the same. In other words, if the whole system warms, the precipitation available doesn’t increase by the hot side temperature rise (say, 1 degree over the last century) it has to also consider that the cold side temperature also increased – it is after all a system-wide rise. The idea that one winter snowfall indicates a systemic shift in precipitation is childish. It is far more complicated than that.
Further, claims for “more global warming” are based not on a rise in daytime highs but nighttime lows. This acts against claims for an increase in precipitation. It is at night that the lowest temperatures are reached and therefore the greatest Delta T which could/might drop some rain or snow. Thus the claims for a global warming driven increase in snowfall is opposed by the fundamentals of temperature measurements and the physics of condensation.
The amount of snowfall will also be dependent on the temperature of the water that the air passes over, the warmer the water the more evaporation they’ll be and the more water vapour in the air that could fall as snow. Wind strength will also be a factor, once the water vapour in the air has fallen as snow, or rain, the drier air needs to be replaced by moist air. The stronger the wind the faster this happens and hence the heavier the snowfall.
For Kenneth and Allen. Not sure why you are slagging most of the Western World, I’m curious why you didn’t mention Russia, China, and indeed the USA. Canadian Comic Rick Mercer did a series of video interviews, called “Talking to Americans”, which are hilarious. Check them out. They were CBC productions.
It might be better to use what precious time remains to start preparing for the coming cold times. All life on Earth is dependent on Total Solar Irradiance (TSI). If the Sun’s TSI decreases, the immediate effect is to cool Earth’s average temperature. The lower TSI lasted for nearly 75 years. That is what happened about 400 years ago, producing the Maunder Minimum, and Prof. Valentina Zharkova’s elegant Double Dynamo Theory predicts that it will happen again, being well established by 2032 less than 6 years from now. Google “Maunder Minimum” and read for yourself what happened 400 years ago. The Earth’s population then was about one billion and about 10% of them froze or starved. Thats 100 million people gone very rapidly. She states that it is happening again now and the weather events we are experiencing now will only get worse and more frequent. Growing food will soon be an obvious problem. I expect Cap can verify what I’m saying. It is probably what motivated his move to Portugal. Lisbon is about 39 degrees north latitude, so they should be south enough to escape the snow and ice, but not sharing his good fortune with a gazillion uprooted others will be tough.
Now we have 8 billion population and if everything goes as it probably will, we will most likely lose more than 10%, which means at least 800 million people will perish. The surprising thing to me is that very few people seem to give a shit. It will be interesting to watch how the human migration to the tropical latitudes progresses. Model, schmodel…once again, they’re cultic little (the sky is falling) chickens.

Kenneth,
You are correct. Well I have one minor correction. Australia is not “probably”, it is “certainly”.
Kenneth, which 3,100 glaciers are growing?
Ian Plimer is Australian.
The relationship between La Nina and El Nino is likely driven by geological activity.
This brief interview is very informative. Enjoy.
