Americans seem to have trouble understanding these articles and interpreting the temperatures as 3 out of 4 people struggle with basic math in the US now. Not surprising given the terrible state of the public schools throughout the country. They no longer learn the basics of reading, writing and arithmetic. Do Americans still know what 7 +3 is? Probably not. How about pointing out where Australia is on a map? They would tell you it’s in Canada somewhere LOL.

I am preparing for a cold winter here in Northwest Oregon based upon the cold weather now occurring in SE Australia. I have found a correlation, odd but true 85% of the time. I hope not but am preparing. EV’s are an environmental disaster creating far more pollution than ICE vehicles.
Use fuel powered trucks and laff at the EV sitting in the garage dead.

Navigation uses spherical trig, you have to interpolate. New computers and GPS do all the work for you navigating now and show where you are on the chart at all times but if all that breaks down you still need to know how to do the math and how to do celestial navigation with a sextant and a reliable chronometer. We had three chronometers on a Navy ship we wound the same time every day then you average the three times on them for most accurate est We still did the method everyday keeps you in practice if new systems fail.
Back then 48 years ago we were using LORAN navigation systems too. Take readings from three LORAN stations and triangulate you position on the chart. To take LORAN reading we used an oscilloscope to find the bearing of the LORAN stations once an hour and mark it on the chart, write it in the Pos Log. Then do the weather reading twice an hour and mark in the weather log. The Navy used that data to come up with weather models before satellites.
We navigated all the way across the Pacific Ocean over the Marianas Trench and went around E Asia then back to Hawaii. Ships operate 24/7 up all night navigating and driving, doing weather twice an hour. I’m still on that schedule never used an alarm clock in my life.
