Ok the recent significant gains on Greenland’s ice sheet since over the weekend has pretty much made up for any corrections in the so called NH Snow Extent chart. They tried to lower it by 6millionkm2, but if you look at Greenland’s ice gains now this week, that pretty much makes up for any previous corrections they made on the NH snow extent. 10Gigatons of ice gain exceeds 6 million km2. The overall area it shows where Greenland gained ice recently is probably similar to covering a big part of Europe in snow (making up for the difference). Therefore, the original claim of 48millionkm2 for total NH snow extent is probably correct.
Impressive amounts of snow in Greenland make no difference to NH snow extent as the whole island has been covered in snow for at least 4 months and it’s snow extent can’t go any higher.
I’m not sure if Greenland is included in the FMI chart which excludes mountainous areas.
Another 120mph blizzard forecast S Greenland on Sunday from another cyclone S of Greenland, same setup as the last one. Many more cyclones forecast off NE US the rest of the month and strong anticyclones on N America. Same as it ever was.
