I just discovered something about the evolution of language. (I know this is way off topic, but I don’t have anywhere else to post it.)
The word “they”, which has always been plural meaning “two or more” is now becoming singular meaning “a person or animal of indeterminate sex”. I’ve run across that usage in two very different circumstances, one time applied to a person, and the other time to a dog. It seems that people are reluctant to use the word “it” to designate sentient beings.
It will be interesting to see if the two meanings exist side by side, or if one supplants the other. My Dad used to have a cow whenever he ran across someone changing the definition or pronunciation of a word. I tried to tell him that the English language is always evolving, because I translated the intructory section of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales while in high school, and I knew the language had changed tremendously since that time.
He didn’t listen to me, though. He was a purist, and I think he liked having things to rant about, lol.

I do not believe it’s nothing new, really. English is a very flexible language and is changing every day.

Thanks, James. It’s true that language is also very regional and changes not only with time but with distance. Look at all the varieties of English on the planet. (For some reason, I am especially fond of English as spoken in New Zealand.)
I just wish I had a spare lifetime to devote to the study of it. I used to think I would be bored in eternity, but have realized that I could easily spend many lifetimes exploring in depth those things that I have only had a taste of in this life.
Does anyone know if the satellites used to make globe average temperature
readings are in polar orbit? If they are just reading the lower latitudes then they aren’t a true representation of average global temperatures.
This is a heartwarming story about an Orca rescue in the Arctic. Proof that what is going on down isn’t going on up there. The flash freezing is catching animals off guard. That polar bear that floated to Iceland and was shot is another example. Just a different outcome.

What would cause a cyclone off NE Japan first week of February? I saved pics of the solar flares that caused that cyclone then I look at SimSolar to see where the planets and our moon were. Mercury going by Venus. Same as the year before when Tonga went off from solar flares. Mercury going by Venus in three weeks with new moon on Nov 1st. Mars going by Jupiter same time and Venus, Saturn and Neptune are all lined up with Mercury.
New moon Nov 30th even bigger alignments. Mercury going by us as we go by Jupiter. Venus and Saturn still lined up with Mercury.
