Tony Philips had this as part of his post today on Spaceweather:
“Widely considered to be the most beautiful clouds on Earth, polar stratospheric clouds are a sign of extreme cold. PSCs form when the temperature in the Arctic stratosphere drops to a staggeringly-low -85 C. Then, and only then, can widely-spaced water molecules in the dry stratosphere coalesce into tiny ice crystals. High-altitude sunlight shining through the crystals creates intense iridescent colors that rival auroras.”
I wonder how much effect the Hunga-Tonga eruption had in facilitating PSC formation.
Merry Christmas CAP. I have a suggestion for the new year. A hybrid approach where Monday thru Thursday would be members only and Friday could be a recap of the whole week that can be sent to other people.
A radar man’s observation
of a future SSW (Sudden Stratospheric Warming) event.
Today the sun will begin migrating back to the north. There is a significant snow pack on the ground. Reflected sun rays and sun rays traversing directly through the atmosphere will combine above the Arctic region. That is the power of two suns in the atmosphere above the Arctic. If that contributes to SSW we can expect more of it as we descend deeper into the Grand Solar Minimum.
Thank you Cap for drawing us out from the shadows. Courage hence leads thee. For the season of repose I leave you and you all with this song of good Christmas cheer:
Good King Wenceslas looked out,
on the Feast of Stephen,
When the snow lay round about,
deep and crisp and even;
Brightly shone the moon that night,
tho’ the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight,
gath’ring winter fuel.
“Hither, page, and stand by me,
if thou know’st it, telling,
Yonder peasant, who is he?
Where and what his dwelling?”
“Sire, he lives a good league hence,
underneath the mountain;
Right against the forest fence,
by Saint Agnes’ fountain.”
“Bring me flesh, and bring me wine,
bring me pine logs hither:
Thou and I will see him dine,
when we bear them thither.”
Page and monarch, forth they went,
forth they went together;
Through the rude wind’s wild lament
and the bitter weather.
“Sire, the night is darker now,
and the wind blows stronger;
Fails my heart, I know not how;
I can go no longer.”
“Mark my footsteps, good my page.
Tread thou in them boldly
Thou shalt find the winter’s rage
freeze thy blood less coldly.”
In his master’s steps he trod,
where the snow lay dinted;
Heat was in the very sod
which the saint had printed.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure,
wealth or rank possessing,
Ye who now will bless the poor,
shall yourselves find blessing.

Merry Christmas and Happy Festivus Cap!!!
May 2024 be the year OF change back to reality and Factual Science is achieved.
OORAH Sir!!!
Can anyone provide a link to the science that shows why CO2 absorption with respect to planks law affects temperatures on Mars and Venus but not Earth?
I’m sure there’s a good scientific reason why this is the case, I just can’t understand why Earth is different.
When trying to discuss climate change with people online a common ‘proof’ people come up with is that the atmosphere on Venus contains huge amounts of CO2 and the temperature is over 400 degrees, therefore there has to be a linear relationship between CO2 and temperature. I doubt many climate alarmists will bother to read any science people link to, but it’s worth a try.
I should think Venus being closer to the Sun, 67 million miles, ranks high on the list of reasons why Venus is hot. If the Earth were the same distance, how hot would we be?!
As for why Venus’ atmosphere traps heat, as you have said, it has a massive amount of CO2, we have little. Beyond that, I know not the components of the Venus atmoshpere but I suspect there’s more to it than just the CO2.
Cap, best wishes to you and your expanding family, and to all you ‘Climate Realists’ out there, may you all have a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
Cap, you are invaluable in showing us the truth, preparing us for the upcoming Eddy Minimum, and sharing in a simple to understand way.
Have a fantastic break with your family and may Santa spoil you rotten.
Thank you, Cap, and Happy Merry Christmas Holidays to all. Even to the deniers & charlatans. May some of them see the light in the coming year(s).
There’s lots to monitor in 2024. Climate & weather events, political & economic issues and trends as well as the machinations of those that wish to control us via their evil plans.
I wish for warmth, fellowship and good health to all.
Hi Cap, Thank you for your exellent work. Hier a book which underlines your opinion:

Merry Christmas and happy new year for you, your family and all your readers.

I wondered just what the CO2 levels were, and how they were measured, scientifically of course…… given the whole Global Warming argument is based on it.. https://climate.nasa.gov/vital-signs/carbon-dioxide/
Carbon dioxide (CO2) is an important heat-trapping gas, also known as a greenhouse gas, that comes from the extraction and burning of fossil fuels (such as coal, oil, and natural gas), from wildfires, and natural processes like volcanic eruptions. The first graph shows atmospheric CO2 levels measured by NOAA at Mauna Loa Observatory, Hawaii, since 1958.
A closer look at the carbon dioxide measurements at Mauna Loa shows a series of wiggles in the data. This annual rise and fall of CO2 levels is caused by seasonal cycles in photosynthesis on a massive scale. In Northern Hemisphere spring, plants come to life and draw in CO2 to fuel their growth….etc etc
The carbon dioxide data on Mauna Loa constitute the longest record of direct measurements of CO2 in the atmosphere. They were started by C. David Keeling of the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in March of 1958 at a facility of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration [Keeling, 1976].
The last five complete years of the Mauna Loa CO2 record plus the current year are shown in the first graph. The full record of combined Scripps data and NOAA data is shown in the second graph. Every monthly mean is the average of daily means, which are in turn based on hourly averages, but only for those hours during which “background” conditions prevail.
WTF!!!! Mauna Loa is a VOLCANO!!!
The red lines and symbols represent the monthly mean values, centered on the middle of each month. The black lines and symbols represent the same, after correction for the average seasonal cycle. The latter is determined as a moving average of SEVEN adjacent seasonal cycles centered on the month to be corrected, except for the first and last THREE and one-half years of the record, where the seasonal cycle has been averaged over the first and last SEVEN years, respectively.
The vertical bars on the black lines of the first graph show the uncertainty of each monthly mean based on the observed variability of CO2 in different weather systems as they go past the top of Mauna Loa. This is manifest in the deviations of daily means from a smooth curve that follows the seasonal cycle [Thoning, 1989]. We take into account that successive daily means are not fully independent, the CO2 deviation on most days has some similarity to that of the previous day. If there is a missing month, its interpolated value is shown in blue.
The last year of data are still preliminary, pending recalibrations of reference gases and other quality control checks.
…So in other words, they use averages of averages, and if the data doesn’t fit ….. https://gml.noaa.gov/ccgg/trends/
Due to the eruption of the Mauna Loa Volcano, measurements from Mauna Loa Observatory were suspended as of Nov. 29. Observations starting in December 2022 are from a site at the Maunakea Observatories, approximately 21 miles north of the Mauna Loa Observatory.
12/27, 6 AM. There are three major cyclones in the Pacific Ocean and one in the Atlantic. Atlantic storm gusting SW 82mph off Ireland and ENE 82mph N off Scotland.
Wind waves 28′!!! The cyclone is pulling cold air down on Greenland now reading -85F on Windy.com.
A cyclone in the N Pacific Ocean off Kamchatka volcanos now gusting WNW 96mph.
Another cyclone between Hawaii and Alaska now gusting NNE 96mph. Another between that cyclone and Cali gusting WNW 78mph. Wind waves 37′ every 14 seconds!!!! Wind waves 40′ N of Hawaii!! 37′ off Kamchatka. Cyclone Kamchatka pulling cold air down over NE Russia now reading -60F, coldest area of the entire continent, because of the cyclone. From the volcanos, from solar flares all last weekend from Mercury in retrograde. The other two Pacific cyclones are feeding off Hawaii volcanos and West Pac volcanos and are pulling cold air down over Alaska now reading -34F. https://www.solarham.net/pictures/2023/dec24_2023_se.jpg https://www.spaceweather.com/images2023/25dec23/cme_anim.gif

Record snowfall in Yekaterinburg
During the day on December 26, 21 mm of precipitation fell in the form of snow in Yekaterinburg. This is the heaviest snowfall this month and the second heaviest in December for the entire period of observation in the city. Due to this snowfall, the monthly precipitation norm in Yekaterinburg was exceeded by 170%. Heavy snow became an unpleasant New Year’s surprise. https://www.hmn.ru/index.php?index=1&ts=231227130727 https://www.gismeteo.ru/news/weather/ekaterinburg-pogreben-pod-rekordnymi-sugrobami/

Record freezes of 30°C hit Sakhalin
Abnormally cold weather set in on Sakhalin. The average daily temperature is 7 to 10 degrees below the climatic norm. In Tymovsky and Smirnykhovsky districts, the temperature dropped to -33°C at night… −36°C. On December 26, a temperature record was set at the Okha weather station (-31.9°C). The previous low (-30°C) has been maintained since 1946. The abnormal cold will continue until the New Year. https://www.hmn.ru/index.php?index=1&ts=231227095953 https://www.gismeteo.ru/news/weather/na-sahaline-udarili-rekordnye-30-gradusnye-morozy/

How much of Venus CO2 is man-made?
I think it was William Happer who has shown that when CO2 gets to 600ppm and higher you reach saturation and there are no adverse effect.
It has also been shown that with Earth at 420pp of CO2 we are still in a State of CO2 famine as all plant life needs it for photosynthesis.
I should think Venus being closer to the Sun, 67 million miles, ranks high on the list of reasons why Venus is hot. If the Earth were the same distance, how hot would we be?!

Venus has x75 atmospheric surface pressure of Earth. That’s 1050 psi.
Gay-Lussac’s law Increase in pressure proportional increase in temperature.
