I was at Walmart last Saturday between rainstorms, they have veggie plant starts on racks on the way in and the driver was there unloading new shipment. I started chatting about the storms from volcanos from solar flares and he had not heard anything about it over the last three years. The biggest supplier of veggie starts NW US guy has a smart phone in his pocket but never heard of Windy.com or SolarHam and doesn’t know where all these storms he’s been fighting have been from.
I bought two green pepper plants for ten bucks, I have a near zero germination rate going here after several attempts nothing but more lessons in futility.
If you want to start seeds, get one of those starter flats with the clear plastic lids. I think you can get them with the starter soil mix already in them, or else buy a bag that says starter mix on it. Also buy a bag of potting soil.
You can get heirloom seeds online. Baker Creek Farms carries heirloom seeds and plants. They’re within 100 miles of me, but I’ve not made the trip yet. I bought online. Their address is rare seeds.com.
You might want to invest in an LED plant light to get your plants started.
Walmart plants are GMO, I believe, and the ones here all come from the same company. The flavors are nowhere near as good as the oldtime heirloom plants.
Follow the directions on the starter flat, and also have some small pots (4″) ready to transplant your seedlings into. Use the potting soil in those pots. Keep the light close down above the tops of the plants. You’ll want to get an adjustable light.

I live in Ontario. The weather forecast was way off. When I went to bed it was 12C, at 0600 it was 5C. Some higher areas may have had a light frost. Frosts at the end of May are rare but happen. I’ve looked at all the NW boats on CL for six years. Looking at cars for two years, my car is 22 years old 190k miles. My truck is 32 years old. Prices for boats and cars are crazy. My top Jeep pick sold already in less than 12 hrs. Number two has better camping room in back.
