The Earth is still in a 2.56 million-year ice age named the Quaternary Glaciation in a cold interglacial period that alternates with very cold glacial periods. The glacial periods usually last around 90,000 years while the interglacial periods usually last around 10,000 years. This current interglacial named the Holocene has lasted for 11,700 years, a bit longer than usual.
Outside of the tropics, people have to have shelter from the cold in the form of heated houses and workplaces, heated transportation, and warm clothes and shoes for most of the year.
The last full glaciation started to end 19 thousand years ago.
The ending of the Younger Dryas very cold period is actually not the end of the last ice age.
The Younger Dryas happened only because a comet hit thick ice over Canada 13 thousand years ago.
The last ice came down the Columbia River from Canada which you can see from the Mission Ridge Sunspot live cam. There’s a gold mine under the city in the valley which is the apple capitol of the world. https://www.missionridge.com/mountain-report/#webcam
Hot and dry there in the Summer, 110F, no rain. Plenty of irrigation and hydroelectric from the Columbia River’s Grand Coulee Dam and many others. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BU4qw9zYX9Y
The last ice here-which is in Missouri, USA-came down from the north (natch!) and stopped at the Missouri River. I spent a lot of years living on the south side of the MO River, and often wondered how it would look with a glacier on the other side. Hope I never find out.
I also spent a few years in Oregon on the south side of the Columbia River. I guess the windsurfers would have to head south if the glaciers come back. Too bad-they are the perfect manmade accompaniment to the fantastic Godmade natural beauty of the Gorge.
Foreman at $12. Lots of overtime though, $18. I was doing 17 hours a day at Costco six days a week , six on Sundays. Start at 5am, 108F afternoons work till 11pm. Hired 22 guys, good crew. Nothing but giant granite boulders. Planted truckloads of plants from western Oregon and installed auto irrigation system.
’06 i graduated to Heavy Equipment Ops Union got on a pipeline job from Canadian Border at Sumas and put in 22 miles of 42inch NG pipe in fourteen weeks doubling West Coast NG supply. Had two 97 hour checks in a row doing testing when the pipe was together. $50 an hour, $75 OT. Drive to Canada every morning, eh? 100 mile commute one way., drove a dozer all day with two welders. Cat was running full rpm whole time. We used 12,000 brand new oak crane mats that came from Tennessee on trains. 1X4X20 feet. Working on top of a live 24 inch NG line blow up a square mile. Welders setting flash fires edge of National Forest.
100 mile trip home, nap, repeat.
If world hunger is linked to climate change which is affected by CO2 emissions and, unfortunately for the climate scarers, an increase in CO2 provides better harvests, what’s wrong with doubling the CO2 to put off starvation ? It’s only an increase of a degree or two, which would be most welcome in China just now. The market gardeners pump CO2 into their greenhouses to improve yields. Simple, can the scarers not do joined up writing? Seems they’ve shot themselves in both feet.
Switch Windy to wind gusts and run the forecast out. 60mph some areas inland, 50mph N of me a bit, enough to fall trees on the highway. Roads closed, power out from Cali to Canada, heavy rain/snow. 17foot waves on the coast with New Moon high tides.
50mph I-5 N Cali, S Oregon and heavy snow, probly close I-5 between Redding and Medford. 30 inches of snow forecast next five days. Trucks backed up for miles, don’t get stuck in THAT mess. I-5 corridor is filled with illegal immigrunt gangs waiting to prey on the innocent. Millions coming up from the border with nothing. Hard case criminals from all over the planet, worst invasion in history. Main North/South Highways West Coast USSA could be blocked this weekend. https://www.windy.com/-Show—add-more-layers/overlays?snowAccu,next5d,41.182,-122.274,11,i:pressure,m:eNSacLo https://www.windy.com/-Show—add-more-layers/overlays?rainAccu,next5d,41.741,-124.091,8,i:pressure,m:ePhacHY
I tried. I finally found wind gusts and got a lot of pretty colors (no idea what they mean) and little white “comets” going every which way. Very pretty, but no indication of wind speed that I could see. I found Portland, but then I lost it and never could get it back, tho I finally found Newport again. Then I lost the pretty colors.
In other words, my usual experience with computers.
As for the bad news, I realized a long time ago that God brought me back to Missouri because of all the bad things going on in the West, the East, the South and the North. Oregon is my favorite state, and I would much rather be there, but have learned to trust God because He knows everything, past present and future, and He loves me. Besides, His judgment is ever so much better than mine.
Just for the heck of it, why don’t you ask Him where He wants you to be. You might be surprised.

The IPCC should go outside for a few hours in the wintertime wearing only a few clothes and see what the climate is really like.

The last ice got to Snoqualmie Pass then went east and west.

The last ice was 3000 feet here and ended 60 miles south draining into the Chehalis River. It melted and formed a big lake which blew out into the Pacific which rushed into the 600′ deep gorges carved by the glacier.

Free land in Oregon Country, great farming and ranching. Cross the mighty MO and head West.

Is that Wenatchee in the background of the top cam? I think I passed through there once around ’86.
Ya, cam looks N into Canada and Wenatchee where the Wenatchee River meets the Columbia River. The W river goes through Leavenworth down from Stevens Pass.

If you turn right at Leavenworth Westbound it puts you on the E side of Glacier Peak a volcano. If you go left it puts you at the base of Mt Stuart., both National Forest Wilderness Areas.

I landscaped the Costco store in Wenatchee, Lowes Hardware, and built a triple field baseball park on the river.

Very impressive!

You are too much! It wears me out just reading your backstory. I always knew you were a writer, even way back when. Creative, prolific, and nuts!
suspicious observers.com explains a lot unfortunately.
Instagram wanted me to input personal data. Nope

10 times more people die from the cold than from heatwaves.
200 mph winds in California going into the record heat wave going up the US from the biggest solar flares of the cycle. Got your updraft, got your downdraft. From flares.
The heat wave formed a cyclone now SE of Greenland, 18 feet of snow forecast next ten days. The warm side of the cyclone is going over the Iceland volcano and pulling warm air up from Africa over EU and UK.
Kamchatka volcano is still pumping heavy, Galapagos looks active, that popped when Tonga went off. Etna caused some of the Alps snow and El Popo, crazy mix.
Colder than ave here, same storm as Cali from Kamchatka from flares.:

Watch Windy.com on a PC monitor with a mouse. Wherever you click the cursor it will tell you the wind speed anywhere on the planet or the temp etc.
Wow! I actually figured it out on my phone. Just using my finger instead of a cursor. Thanks for the great tutorial, Dirk! 😘
One more thing…what does “kt” mean in reference to wind speed?
Knots. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knot_(unit)#Usage
Windy scales are lower right corner. Switch to mph or km/h.
You can unclick particle animation and get rid of the clutter. Those show wind direction and velocity. You can add or not the isobars there also to cut down on clutter.
