I hope you are not fully correct on the economic future but I recognize you may well be. I remember in the 1970’s in the Carter presidency that my wife and I began preparing for survival type living. She got the fireside books. We already owned land out from my hometown of Lufkin, Texas. Ronald Reagan became president, the attitudes in America changed as did those in Congress, and our industry began a stout recovery. Unfortunately today, we have sent most of our industry to China and other locations. I do believe we are in for a collapse of some sort. The question is whether, when, and how much might there be a recovery. Perhaps in that devastation the U.S. and Europe may recover some backbone and begin restoring their industrial base, if we have not been invaded and overtaken by Marxists, internal and external.
Please elaborate more! We need all the help we can get! How do you deal with Electricity off grid? We have water, and stock piled dried food,….and chickens. But Electricity is going to be a big problem if GAS Stations go down.
Get a large solar array plus batteries. Lithium batteries sometimes do not work well in cold, have problems recharging. Renogy solar has complete solar arrays, can get parts when needed. I am mounting mine on the ground so I can easily clear snow off them when needed. (slightly disabled person here.) Add up wattage of appliances, compare with the watt hours of the battery storage and how long the battery storage will last. You should go for a MTTP controller because that still gives good charging even on cloudy days. Do some exploring on this. A generator will only take you so far, then if no gas, no generator.
I appreciate the informed efforts on your part to take a peek over the horizon. Experience especially gives you credibility. Your thoughts/experiences, please, on: a) setting up stand-alone power systems. b) water supply, cleaning, storage. c) energy for cooking/heat. d) wealth preservation (investing outside of system), items, resources that will hold value & encourage barter. Probably enough here for several months!
The Winter is Coming…This is just the beginning…
-Severe frosts in Russia
Cold weather has gripped most of Russia. The map shows in purple areas where the air temperature last night was below -30 degrees. On European territory, the most severe frost on the morning of December 8 was observed in Udmurtia; in the village of Debesy it was -40.7°C. https://t.me/pozdnyakova_meteo/750 https://www.hmn.ru/index.php?index=1&ts=231208105637

-Snowfall in Moscow is still at record levels
The heavy snowfall that occurred in the capital region in the first days of December broke snow records. According to average statistics, in the first decade of the month, its height on average varies from 7 to 9 cm, but already in the first days of this December it was 18 cm.
Thank you Cap I’m of the opinion you are on course. I’m in the position that I have fewer days in front of me than behind but I have grandchildren. Sadly only one is awake the others are hooked into the narrative and won’t question things.
Electricity is everything – without it life immediately becomes very difficult for us all. I have lived through snow taking electricity away. It was kinda fun cooking hotdogs in the fire-stove. But our money is quickly becoming worthless. Taking more and more to purchase less. Everything is smaller. I agree Cap, the false pretences of which our prosperity is built upon, is about to crumble under the reality of the truth. Every man’s resolve will be tested whether faith in Himself, or in his God.
I listened to Kim Greenwood’s interview of Dr. Valentina Zharkova, and then her presentation her complete information on Bases 104 Masterclass on Rumble. My wife asked me why I keep listening to her. I explained that her brilliance is somewhat trapped inside her Russian language and her heart as a pure researcher. Unlocking what she knows is not an easy task.
All the solar power equipment has a vulnerability if a grand Solar minimum sends a significant EMP. Or if an enemy sends a nuclear EMP our way to preserve the structures but kill of multiple hundreds of millions of useless food consumers (their term, not mine). Two choices, protect your solar power systems by buying extra system boards for your euipment that you store in a Faraday “cage” or totally ground the system. Yes, stock markets should peak in 2026 (18.6 year cycle) re Fred Harrison, along with the peak of the K wave 25 to 30 years up and then 25 to 30 years down which affects the resources sector. Then there is the American 84 year war cycle. This one is harder to explain as America seems to constantly be at war, but think casualties in the hundreds of thousands, and, it may be another civil war between Americans. In the next three years 2024, 25, 26 expect the stock markets to boom re 2004 to 2007. A perfect storm is coming and no politician or economist will see it. Land/ houses will be manic and buying then is called the winners curse as prices generally crash between 40 to 60 % when the cycle tops out leaving people with alot of debt and no way to pay it back.
In my opinion the economic future is this. A second bigger wave of price inflation beginning early next year resulting in financial problems and more money printing. This causes a crack-up boom in commodities into 2025, then a bit of a slump, start of WW3 and another wave of price inflation hitting early 2026. This last bout of inflation will lead to a catastrophic financial crash starting mid 2026, which will be blamed on the war. Expect credit to totally freeze up.
Now is time to start converting your fiat money into real things. Natural money is gold, silver and copper.
How my fav crazies doing? Yall such a joke paying and believing all this dude says
Why you dont talk about the midwest pretty above average temperatures for the season?
Oh as always You are cherry picking thats it
Oh look its AA. You can tell because you talk exactly the same way. I’ve always suspected you don’t live in Australia because you always completely ignore Western Australia and the colder temps and conditions it’s been experiencing for the past 3 years. Yet you talk about cherry picking. Piss off!
Share buybacks did a lot of the heavy lifting for the stock market, especially when companies could borrow at near zero rates. Sensible companies paid down old high coupon debt with new, cheaper paper, so they still have a few shots in the locker, but as that history rolls off the prop will no longer be there. Near/friend-shoring likely means higher labour and material costs, so in that respect, lower margins. Medium to higher real rates eventually show up in discounted cash flow models. So tough sledging, probably. If you can find companies with low debt/equity, high free cash flow and a good product “moat’ they will see you right. At least, that’s what I read ten years ago.
Demetrios Papathanasiou, Global Director of the World Bank’s Energy and Extractives Global Practice, said: “Taking quick and decisive action on methane emissions could avoid as much as 0.1 °C of warming by mid-century – equivalent to zeroing out the emissions of every car and truck in the world. With GFMR we will support countries with the least capacity and resources to address methane emissions, while also leveraging billions of dollars of private sector finance.”
Great reading all the comments here but on the practical side, we know that a shtf scenario is highly likely but who is preparing for food shortages, has everyone purchased vegetable seeds and/or contacted neighbours to discuss the possibility of setting up a collaborative commune?

How did you deal with the electricity grid total failure during & after after Y2K ?
If you have adequate sun exposure, solar panels with battery storage can meet many of your needs.

-The climate in St. Petersburg corresponds to the Khanty-Mansiysk (Siberia) norm.
On the night of December 8, the temp dropped to -17°C, in the region – to -27°C (Lodeynoye Pole). Such values at the beginning of December are typical for Khanty-Mansiysk and occur once every four or five years.
