17 Thoughts to “Back-to-Back Arctic Blasts For US; Snow Pushes Across The Mediterranean And Caucasus; South Korea Shivers; + How The Global Warming “Pause” Was Erased”
We have an interesting real time science experiment about to happen in Texas. A thin layer of Arctic air will be freezing water on contact. That freezing requires 144 BTU’s per pound of water to convert to ice. The cold to convert will be volunteered by the atmosphere making it warmer. Will that make the storm self defeating and reduce its southern expansion time will tell.
To say it more plainly it saps cold from the atmosphere to create ice. Just like it saps cold from your freezer to freeze a block of ice.
I don’t think any weather model out there considers conversion losses.

The hypothesis is dependent on whether there is a stationary air mass or whether the air gaining the energy is displaced by more cold air or vertical overturing caused by turbulence.
An atmospheric inversion can occur in winter. During this period, the inversion is most common due to the trapping of mist and fog in the cooler air at lower levels. This phenomenon can lead to reduced visibility and can pose dangers for transportation and public health. In mountainous regions, inversions can create visual phenomena and influence flight conditions. The presence of an inversion layer can trap wind shear below or near the ground, requiring careful monitoring and planning for safe aircraft operations

The warm air can’t stop the cold air because the cold air is heavier and has a higher density.
It depends on how much cold air has been created and whether there is enough warm air to heat the cold air.
The cold heavy air ends up at the bottom and the warm lighter air on top of the cold air:
At a constant pressure, air is significantly denser (heavier) at -20°C compared to -10°C because colder air is more compact, causing it to sink, while warmer air (like at -10°C) expands and rises, creating a noticeable difference in air mass and pressure behavior, affecting things like lift and power demands. Key Relationship: Ideal Gas Law The relationship between pressure (P), density(p), and temperature (T).
At 0°C: Air density (dry, at standard pressure) is about 1.29 kg/m³ (or 1.29 g/L).
At -20°C: Air density will be noticeably higher (around 1.39 kg/m³ or more, depending on exact pressure) because molecules move slower and are packed tighter, making the air feel “heavier” or more substantial.
High Pressure (Cold Air): Cold air is dense and heavy, so it sinks, creating high-pressure systems (anticyclones). This sinking air gets compressed by the weight above it, causing its temperature to increase (adiabatic warming).
Low Pressure (Rising Air): Warm air is lighter and rises, leaving behind an area of low pressure (cyclone). As this air rises, the surrounding pressure decreases, causing the air to expand and cool down (adiabatic cooling).
I live in red state Alabama, whish is in TVA country. I asked Mr. Internet how many gigawatt hours of electricity is generated by wind & solar in Alabama: Answer: Not available, so I guess perhaps the amount is not that significant. I don’t get all over the state but in N Alabama, I don’t see turbines and solar farms. I do seem to remember a tech company will be constructing a solar farm.
I think I will miss the early snow, ice and freezing rain this weekend in N Alabama, USA. Later, idk. A lot more is coming down from Canada.
I ordered a large capacity storage battery for phone and laptop charging, to arrive tomorrow. Local forecast (and Cap’s posted image today) says I likely won’t need it this weekend but I might in the next weeks.
BREAKING: The Superior Court in DC just NUKED disgraced climate scientist Michael Mann AGAIN.
Last year, Mann was sanctioned for “knowingly feeding the jury false data” in a manner of misconduct that was “extraordinary in its scope, extent, and intent.”
Today, the court doubled down, highlighting Michael Mann’s lies:
“Plaintiff left the jury with misleading evidence… the Court simply cannot condone such bad faith litigation tactics… Thus, the Court’s ruling must stand. It is the Court’s duty to punish and deter bad faith litigation tactics.”

It’s the hot air turbulence that bothers me.
Are you panting again, Deb.
Actually, yes, every time I walk anywhere. Heart blockage, so they tell me. I’m hoping to reverse it. Now aren’t you ashamed of yourself? 🤣
Blue berries and red fruit and vegies and vitamin k.
Ashamed of what?

Trapping wind shear below the ground could take some doing.
That will teach me for using wiki.
Lol! 🤣

Go sit on a hockey stick, Mann.
Good info, thank you Jay.
