How are the ticks down your way? They are flourishing here with the warm wet weather. Kitty or me got into a nest of seed ticks and carried them inside. I picked about 20 of them off me in 24 hours, some of them in the middle of the night–amazing how such a tiny creature can have such a sharp bite, but they paid for it with their lives. (I keep a pair of surgical clamps on my window sill all summer.)

I have never understood that. I lived in the Willamette Valley in Oregon for a couple of years, and in spite of the lush growth and damp climate, I never saw either one of those nasty bugs there. I wonder why?
There are ticks and chiggers in Eastern WA and maybe dryer parts of Western WA but this is a rain forest here. Eastern WA gets much less rain and there are no tall trees. My sister lives in E WA and Sage Brush is what grows there, Dryland farmers. On the hills are Pine trees which don’t grow much on this side in the Forest.
At the beach here there’s sand fleas which cause no harm to humans they only live in a small strip above the high tide line.
Lady bugs go up in the mountains before Winter and hibernate below the snowpack then fly down to the valleys in Spring. I really like Lady bugs,

For my money it formed over New Caledonia from the leftover warm sea water of summer. By the time it drifted South here to NZ it was a normal ex-tropical storm and just parked off the West coast for three days cooling itself down with some Antarctic input while a few Auckland and North NZ towns got some minor flooding in places that have a long history of flooding under such events. People need to be allowed to clean out the drains a bit more often.

I saw the convection cell form on infrared satellite and switched to SO2 and saw feed from the volcanos there off Vanuatu which has been putting out SO2 for years every solar bump.
