It is claimed that CO2 is a radiative trace gas in relation to the sun’s energy only in a part of the infrared section of the energy spectrum, which is 52% – 55% of incoming.
To use the term ‘sunlight’ in relation to CO2 absorbing and re-emitting is technically incorrect.
CO2 does not reflect the relevant band of the energy spectrum but absorbs and re-emits at any angle as the CO2 molecule is tumbling. One can think of it like a little bit of energy bouncing around as on a pinball game whilst in a convection current. (hot air rising).
CO2 does not store energy. ( retain heat more than surrounding atmosphere )
Proof of the pudding is Earth has been much cooler/colder with atmospheric CO2 concentrations much higher.
